Graduation Ceremony of the First Korean Language Teacher Training Program at the University of São Paulo

On November 20, the Korean Education Center in São Paulo (CEC) and the University of São Paulo (USP - Director Paulo Martins, Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences) held a graduation ceremony for the first Korean Language Teacher Training Program.

A total of 16 people completed the first USP Korean Language Teacher Training Program. Not only graduates of the University of São Paulo's Korean literature major but also graduates of other universities took the course.

In January, the Korean Education Center in São Paulo and the University of São Paulo(USP) selected students who had passed the Korean Language Proficiency Test at level 4 or higher and wanted to work as Korean language teachers. The students took more than 180 hours of classes from March to November, including advanced Korean language, Korean teaching methods, and teaching practice.

At the graduation ceremony, student Amanda Palermo Silva said, "It was a class where my Brazilian friends, who have been studying Korean for a long time and with difficulty on their own, were able to receive systematic Korean education." "I would like to contribute to spreading the Korean language and culture in the future," she said.

Consul General Hwang In-sang said,

"Korean language and culture are spreading greatly in Brazil, and the Korean government is working with the São Paulo State Assembly to pass the Hangeul Day bill in the city this year."

The Korean Education Center in São Paulo (CEC) plans to support graduates of the Korean teacher training program to work in local elementary, middle, and high schools and plans to run the second Korean teacher training program in cooperation with the University of São Paulo next year.
